Republic City: Ilannaq

Name: Ilannaq (“Ila”)

Age: 18

Nationality: United Republic of Nations

Occupation: An archivist in City Hall. His main job is cataloging the transcripts of old council meetings and press conferences. He is not in a high enough position to have access to the more important documents.


Skills:

Waterbending – Uses it a little when painting. In battle situations, he chooses defense over offense unless he must. Has been trained in the healing arts due to his naturally weak immune system.

Organization – He likes having things neat and orderly. It's also his job, kind of.

Art – Not a professional, but he enjoys watercolor painting and calligraphy.

Social avoidance – He always carries at least one item, often a newspaper or large hat, that he can hide behind so no one will talk to him.

Personality:

Ilannaq is a delicate little flower afraid of confrontation and most people. He is sweet, and does his best not to insult anyone with his introverted behavior, but there have been some unfortunate misunderstandings. People tend to take offense when he excuses himself from the room whenever they try to talk to him. Ila doesn't hate people; he's always willing to help those in need. He just wishes to have one or two friends total and for everyone else to respect his boundaries.

RP sample:

Ila very cautiously peeked around the filing cabinet that had sheltered him for the last few hours. It was quieter now. There weren't any planes whirring outside, and the screaming, crumbling, and other sounds of the battle with that giant spirit had stopped. As he stepped over the large vines on the floor and peered outside the decimated wall of the records office, Ilannaq saw that the dark veil over the world had vanished. That odd aurora in the sky was still there, though. He wondered what had caused it. Lights like that were only known to appear at the poles.

Another, fainter sound began: voices. The boy tilted his head to listen. There were two of them, and they seemed to be getting closer. Though he looked around, Ila couldn't see them.

“Alright,” one said in exasperation, “enough of this nonsense. I'm asking for directions. You! You there – pale one!”

Ila froze in panic as two aquatic looking spirits descended in front of him.

The left one, tall with pink markings, continued speaking. “We are lost.”

“We are NOT lost,” its green partner huffed.

“Yes, we are. Which portal is closer, and where is it?”

Ila nervously ran a hand through his hair. He was beginning to feel very nauseous. “The... the s-southern portal,” he said, recalling the media's talks throughout the war. He hardly believed he could speak. He pointed south. “That way.”

The two nodded and moved on, bickering about something else as they left.

Ila staggered back into the records office and promptly collapsed behind the cabinet once more.


Additional Info:

Ilannaq has a slight eye disorder known as photophobia. Because of this, his eyes are very sensitive to bright lights.

He always has some small symptom of illness, such as coughing, sneezing, or general weakness.

The best way to approach him is to pretend he's a little fox antelope: be quiet, avoid sudden movements, and maybe offer some food.
